Comenius Assistantship Programme 2012 – Deadline for applications: 31st January 2012

Announcement from Leargas

The Comenius Assistantship Programme provides funding for future teachers or those considering teaching as a possible career path, to spend between 13 and 45 weeks teaching in a school abroad. Every Assistant is assigned a qualified, experienced teacher as mentor and supervisor. Assistants are fully integrated into school life, assisting in teaching and may take part in other school activities. Comenius Assistants receive a grant to help cover travel and preparatory costs and to contribute towards subsistence costs during their stay in the host country.  A Comenius Assistant is a valuable cultural and linguistic resource for host schools, bringing a unique European dimension to the classroom.

You should consider a Comenius Assistantship if you would like to:

  • gain teaching experience
  • learn about other education systems
  • enhance your language skills
  • explore other cultures and identities
  • promote your own country and culture

The 2012 deadline for applications for Comenius Assistantships is 31 January.  Successful applicants will commence their Assistantship in the 2012-2013 academic year (usually from September/October onwards).

Applications must be submitted online and a hard copy must be sent to Léargas by the deadline (applications cannot be accepted via email). Applications which arrive after the deadline will not be accepted. Applicants are advised to retain proof of postage.

The application form, technical and quality criteria and a useful guide are all located in the Resources page for Comenius Assistantships.  For further information, please visit the Comenius Assistantships section of our website www.leargas.ie.
